To Flashed Targets
نویسنده
چکیده
A target presented as a gash in darkness, before, during or after a saccade. elicits a subsequent goal-directed saccade of normal amplitude and appropriate latency. In a tlashed’target variation of the Wheeless paradigm, “cancellation time” is not observed in circumstances where the first target is believed to be ineffective. Latency is approximately the same whether target steps are synchronized to saccades or not. Little or no processing for a primary saccade occurs before the prior primary

Flashes are localised as if they were moving with the eyes
Targets that are flashed during smooth pursuit are mislocalised in the direction of the pursuit. It has been suggested that a similar mislocalisation of moving targets could help to overcome processing delays when hitting moving objects. But are moving targets really mislocalised in the way that flashed ones are? To find out we asked people to indicate where targets that were visible for differ...
متن کاملRhesus monkeys mislocalize saccade targets flashed for 100ms around the time of a saccade
Humans and monkeys mislocalize targets flashed around the time of a saccade. Here, we present data from three monkeys on a double-step task with a 100ms target duration. All three subjects mislocalized targets that were flashed around the time of the first saccade, in spite of long intersaccadic intervals. The error was consistently in the direction opposite that of the saccade, and occurred in...
متن کاملMislocalization of stationary and flashed bars after saccadic inward and outward adaptation of reactive saccades.
Recent studies have shown that saccadic inward adaptation (i.e., the shortening of saccade amplitude) and saccadic outward adaptation (i.e., the lengthening of saccade amplitude) rely on partially different neuronal mechanisms. There is increasing evidence that these differences are based on differences at the target registration or planning stages since outward but not inward adaptation transf...
متن کاملThe effect of optokinetic nystagmus on the perceived position of briefly flashed targets
Stimuli flashed briefly around the time of an impending saccade are mislocalized in the direction of the saccade and also compressed towards the saccadic target. Similarly, targets flashed during pursuit eye movements are mislocalized in the direction of pursuit. Here, we investigate the effects of optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) on visual localization. Subjects passively viewed a wide-field drifti...
متن کاملJudging relative positions across saccades
When components of a shape are presented asynchronously during smooth pursuit, the retinal image determines the perceived shape, as if the parts belong to the moving object that the eyes are pursuing. Saccades normally shift our gaze between structures of interest, so there is no reason to expect anything to have moved with the eyes. We therefore decided to examine how people judge the separati...
